Main objective: Reducing the enviromental impact

Mattia Dal Ceredo

DAL CEREDO TECHNOLOGY represents the story of a successful family business dealing with design, production and trade of automation with the aim of decreasing the environmental impact and reducing production costs. It is a quite young company with a 50 year experience in the tannery automation sector: the head of the family, Giuliano Dal Ceredo, graduated in 1968 as an electrical engineer at the “Alessandro Rossi” industrial technical institute in Vicenza. At the beginning of the seventies he began to take his first steps in the tanning world, initially working for important companies involved in the machinery sector. Afterwards he began his own entrepreneurial activity with some partners in the field of measurement systems for tanneries, achieving important results and filing a dozen patents. Recently, when he founded DAL CEREDO TECHNOLOGY with his sons Stefano and Mattia, a new adventure began. We interviewed Dal Ceredo family at the headquarters and share their historical experience.

“Our company – said Giuliano and his sons Stefano and Mattia – is addressed to tanneries providing them with automation systems focusing on sustainability, production optimization and consequent increasing productivity and margins. Leathers of course produce a certain dispersion of volatile chemical products in the atmosphere, the so-called overspray. Our technology deals precisely with this phase: by reducing the overspray, the costs of procurement of chemical products and those of disposal decrease. Having tripled in recent years, they significantly affect tanneries’ balance sheets.

How does a tannery manage to deal with sustainability and how can pollutant emissions in spray finishing plants be reduced?
“Tanneries are often criticized for the environmental impact of their processes, but the Italian leather industries have adopted very strict regulations that greatly reduce this impact. A fundamental prerequisite is to consider leather as a sustainable product – i.e. a by-product of the food industry – which is valued and destined for the fashion, automotive and furniture sectors. Our company intervention is related to the final part of the tanning process, the finishing and with our technology, emissions into the atmosphere are greatly reduced “.

How can you sum up your business philosophy?
“Our slogan ‘Trust in sustainability’ reflects the respect we place in the environment and the main concept we put into practice when designing a new product. We stay between the tannery and chemical products’ producers and have an in-depth knowledge of the tanning process; therefore, our technicians can offer personalized solutions to each single customer”.

The latest innovations introduced by Dal Ceredo are the “A1” and “S1” products: what are they about?
The ‘A1’ paint economizer is an electronic device designed to be installed in tanneries’ spray booths. ‘A1’ is not simply an economizer but rather a booth controller. It manages the guns’ operations, sprays in presence of leathers and compensates the guns’ electropneumatic differences by automatically calibrating them thus allowing homogeneous spraying with less paint. ‘S1’, another great novelty, is a patented equipment that belongs to a new generation of innovative devices for spray booths of any kind. S1 filters and heats the atomization air of the painting systems making the chemical product become more fluid during the spraying phase. In this way, it is possible to significantly lower the atomization pressure by optimizing the application of chemical product and increasing the transfer index, with a saving of chemical product used up to 30%. The product has been included in the category “Air treatment for spraying lines” on the Assomac website; we are very proud of this “.

What are the main features of “S1”?
“To stabilize the temperature of the atomization air throughout the year; to dehumidify, filter and purify the atomization air; to decrease the viscosity of the paint by heating by supplying hot air and to decrease the same viscosity that allows the reduction, up to 50%, of the pressure used for spraying the paints. Furthermore, to reduce the drying temperature in the tunnels, to constantly check the temperature of the air atomization circuit and finally to send the data to the company’s IT system. Both A1 and S1 are ‘Industry 4.0 ready’ products and hyper-depreciable assets “
